Killing Sarai Excerpt and Giveaway...

Book Description:

From the author of the New York Times, USA Today & Wall Street Journal bestselling novel, THE EDGE OF NEVER, comes a story of passion and survival…
---
Sarai was only fourteen when her mother uprooted her to live in Mexico with a notorious drug lord. Over time she forgot what it was like to live a normal life, but she never let go of her hope to escape the compound where she has been held for the past nine years.

Victor is a cold-blooded assassin who, like Sarai, has known only death and violence since he was a young boy. When Victor arrives at the compound to collect details and payment for a hit, Sarai sees him as her only opportunity for escape. But things don’t go as planned and instead of finding transport back to Tucson, she finds herself free from one dangerous man and caught in the clutches of another.

While on the run, Victor strays from his primal nature as he succumbs to his conscience and resolves to help Sarai. As they grow closer, he finds himself willing to risk everything to keep her alive; even his relationship with his devoted brother and liaison, Niklas, who now like everyone else wants Sarai dead.

As Victor and Sarai slowly build a trust, the differences between them seem to lessen, and an unlikely attraction intensifies. But Victor’s brutal skills and experience may not be enough in the end to save her, as the power she unknowingly holds over him may ultimately be what gets her killed.

This is their story…

Excerpt:

I raise the gun a little higher, settling the barrel at the back of her head, but not touching it. I don’t want her to be afraid before she dies and although I know she fears nothing, death is something we all fear in our final moment even if only the smallest part of us is conscious of it. I don’t want her to fear it at all and she can’t if she doesn’t know that it’s happening.

“How old were you when you became what you are?” she asks.

Caught off guard by the question and maybe more-so by the shifting of the mood, I hesitate before answering.

“I was nine.”

She sniffles and wipes her eyes with the hand near her cheek.

“You were very young,” she goes on. “I guess in a way like me, you never had a chance to live a life of your choosing. I guess maybe we aren’t really so different from each other.” She pauses. “Except I might be more like your brother than I care to admit. He’s as angry as I am.”

I release my finger from the trigger and slowly, so she doesn’t know, move the barrel away from the back of her head.

“It must’ve been hard growing up with Niklas,” she says.

I set the gun back on the bed next to me and before I know what I’m doing I’m cradling the back of her head in my hand again.

Tangled

Book Description:

Drew Evans is a winner. Handsome and arrogant, he makes multimillion dollar business deals and seduces New York’s most beautiful women with just a smile. He has loyal friends and an indulgent family. So why has he been shuttered in his apartment for seven days, miserable and depressed?

He’ll tell you he has the flu.

But we all know that’s not really true.

Katherine Brooks is brilliant, beautiful and ambitious. She refuses to let anything - or anyone - derail her path to success. When Kate is hired as the new associate at Drew’s father’s investment banking firm, every aspect of the dashing playboy’s life is thrown into a tailspin. The professional competition she brings is unnerving, his attraction to her is distracting, his failure to entice her into his bed is exasperating.

Then, just when Drew is on the cusp of having everything he wants, his overblown confidence threatens to ruin it all. Will he be able untangle his feelings of lust and tenderness, frustration and fulfillment? Will he rise to the most important challenge of his life?

Can Drew Evans win at love?

Tangled is not your mother’s romance novel. It is an outrageous, passionate, witty narrative about a man who knows a lot about women…just not as much as he thinks he knows. As he tells his story, Drew learns the one thing he never wanted in life, is the only thing he can’t live without.

My Review:

OMG! This book made me giggle so much!!!
Teehee.. just thinking about certain parts make me literally LOL as I am typing.
The entire story is told from Drew's POV and while he is kind of a giant bag of douche most of the time, his sarcasm and total "guy" perspective on things were absolutely hilarious. I wasn't sure how I would feel about reading a whole book from a male's POV, but it was surprisingly refreshing and so funny! The writing reminded me a little bit of Wallbanger, which I also loved, and like I said earlier, Drew is totally an asshat, but he somehow is completely lovable at the same time. The banter and arguments between him and Kate were super entertaining, and once he finally realizes he has legitimate feelings for her, his efforts to try to win her heart had me in stitches. The book wasn't always funny, but it is definitely lighthearted and witty the whole way through. If you are looking for an easy and fun read, you should definitely give this book a shot!

Happy Reading, Y'all! :-)

Up next on my TBR list...

This is book two in Georgia Cates' Beauty series. It came out May 30, 2013 and I will be reading it ASAP. I thoroughly enjoyed the first installment, Beauty from Pain, so I am really looking forward to see what happens in with Laurelyn and Jack Henry.

Book Description:

The story of Jack Henry and Laurelyn continues...

How do you move on when he’s every song you sing?

After Laurelyn Prescott walks away from the love of her life, she returns to Nashville to pursue the only dream she has left. Determined to find a distraction from the pain of losing Jack Henry, she immerses herself in her music. But with her old life comes old acquaintances and new expectations. When Laurelyn refuses her record producer’s outrageous demands, she finds herself without a career—until an unforeseen opportunity presents itself. From there it’s a rocket ride straight to the top where Laurelyn finds the success she’s always dreamed of. Will it be enough to bring her the happiness she so deserves, or will the absence of Jack Henry leave her wanting more?

Jack Henry McLachlan never expected to fall in love with Laurelyn Prescott—but he did. After he foolishly let her slip through his fingers, he spends three months searching for her, but their reunion doesn’t come easy. The woman he finds isn’t the same one who drifted away without a goodbye. No longer an insecure girl on an Australian adventure, this Laurelyn is a successful musician with a promising career. Her dreams are becoming a reality, and Jack is terrified his American girl won’t have a place for him in her new life. With only a month to convince her otherwise, will it be enough time to make her visualize a life beyond the glitz and glamour, a life that includes him?

Excerpt:

Laurelyn Prescott’s POV

He holds out a red rose for me. “You have an admirer.”

I take the rose and bring it to my nose. Being given a bouquet of flowers isn’t unusual after a show but I’ve never been given a single rose before. It seems so intimate. “A fan, I suppose?”

“I found this dude standing outside the door looking in here just now. I asked him who he was but he didn’t say. He just told me to give you the rose and this guitar. Oh, and tell you he enjoyed the show—that you were ‘fan-fucking-tastic.’” He puts the case at my feet and the world around me begins to spin way too fast.

It’s my Martin. That can only mean Jack Henry was here. Right outside that door—that cracked door—while Charlie was kissing me.

I dash off the couch and run down the hallway, calling out for him like a maniac. “Jack Henry! Jack Henry!”

I have no idea which way to go, but I run toward the auditorium. It’s empty other than the cleaning staff, so I run toward the lobby and out to the street where I pray I’ll find him standing on the sidewalk.
It’s storming and the raindrops pelting down sting as they hit my face. I reach up to push my wet hair from my eyes and that’s when I see him. He’s getting into a cab up the street. “Jack Henry!” I shout at the top of my lungs but he doesn’t hear me. He’s too far away. “Jack Henry!”

I run toward the car screaming his name and I reach the cab as it’s leaving. I slam my hand across the top of the trunk as hard as I can before watching it pull away, taking him out of my life again.

“Nooo!” I scream so loudly, my vocal cords spasm. I drop to my knees there on the cold, wet concrete. I try to scream, and again, nothing comes out because my breath has been taken from me.

Please, don’t leave. Please, don’t be gone out of my life forever.

Playing Catch Up....

Sorry for being a total review writing slacker lately, guys!  I have been a reading machine the last few weeks and have basically only put my nook down to eat, sleep, and go to work.
(I might have a problem)

Since I obviously haven't been able to stop reading long enough to actually write anything... I am going to do another quick rundown on all of the books I have been neglecting y'all with rather than write a whole bunch of individual reviews.
 So here we go....

First up....

I really enjoyed this book, but let me start out by saying that it is very dark. The story is centered around the rape and suicide of the main character's (Brooke) best friend, and Brooke's drive to earn forgiveness and redeem herself for the horrible betrayal that she feels ultimately lead to her BFF's suicide. Again, this is not in any way a light read, but as controversial as the topics in this story are, there are also moments of humor and love. I literally could not put this book down because I was so captivated by Brooke's story. I definitely recommend it.

So I am not exactly sure where to begin with this one... Did I enjoy it? Sure. Was I wowed by it? Uhhh no. I thought the battle of wills between the main character and her boss were cute, but there was entirely too much steam and not enough story development for me. If I were to rate it, I would probably give it 3 out of 5 stars. If you are looking for a mindless, lighthearted, steamy read you should check it out, but it is not a must-read in my eyes.
I just kind of felt... meh about it.

Ok this is a super sweet (and mildly drawn out) love story that I enjoyed reading. Buuuuuuut, I will say that the epilogue made me cry like a freaking baby. I am talking ugly, sobbing and snotting all over the place cry.
I pretty much sat in bed looking like this for a solid hour...

Buuuut like I said, it is a really sweet love story and is absolutely worth reading, just get the tissues ready. Laura Miller is releasing Will's POV soon. So if you read Butterfly Weeds and like it, check out Will's story in My Butterfly

This was a decent read. The plot was interesting, the characters had chemistry, and it had plenty of steam, but all in all it didn't blow me away. There were a few inconsistencies that kind of annoyed me and while the story line was interesting, it wasn't as deep or dark as I wanted.  I will definitely give Kendall Ryan another chance though because her writing has great potential...
this one just didn't quite do it for me.

This is the final installment in Nicole Williams' Crash series and let me start out by saying that I freaking love Jude Ryder and I really liked this entire series, buuuuuut if I am being perfectly honest, the plot throughout all 3 books is pretty ridiculous. The dialogue is super cheesy and completely unrealistic, but for some reason Lucy and Jude's story just sticks with you and makes you root for them. Despite the cheesiness, I still recommend this series because well....
you just really shouldn't miss out on Jude. ;-)

Ok, I wasn't sure if I wanted to read this book after I read the synopsis, but I surprisingly really liked it. The writing was great, the plot was interesting, intense, and really unique, and the characters were extremely likable. I highly recommend it if you are looking for something different because honestly, it is a pretty awesome book.
Here is the Goodreads link, so go check it out for yourself.

This was another super sweet love story that I thoroughly enjoyed. I loved the witty banter and humor, and there are some really swoon worthy moments. It is a cute and lighthearted read and while it isn't the best book I have ever read, it gave my wounded heart a nice break from all the cliffhangers I have been torturing myself with. Again, if you are looking for a quick and easy heartwarming read,
give this book a whirl.

If you haven't read Taking Chances by Molly McAdams yet...
GO READ IT IMMEDIATELY
and then come back and read this review. Let me warn you that it is an addicting story that will suck you in and then completely shatter your heart and crush your soul, but it is suuuuuch a good book! Even if it kind of ruins your world.....

Stealing Harper is Chase's POV and McAdams did a great job of telling his side of the story. I love that we finally get some insight into what the heck was going on with him throughout TC. I'm not going to lie, I was a nervous wreck as I neared the end because I knew the heartbreak that was coming. In fact, I may have read this book slower than any book I have ever read because I was scared of the emotional breakdown that was surely to follow upon finishing, but surprisingly enough, while I teared up a little and wanted to go lay and cry in fetal position for a couple of hours...
I was shockingly able to keep it together. High five for me!

I almost decided not to read this book because I don't like the cover, but boy am I glad that I decided not to judge a book by its kind of lame looking cover because I reeeeally liked this story! I don't know what it is about Rule...
(the tats, the sexy piercings, the bad boy attitude!?!?!),
but his character just really drew me in.
Of course the Rule that I envisioned looked more like this....

*fans face*
but I digress... The story itself is full of angst, love, heartbreak, and steam and I was captivated from start to finish. The female lead, Shaw is smart, caring, and equally as likable as Rule. Without a doubt, I would give this book a solid 4 out of 5 stars. You should seriously read it. It is Jay Crownover's debut novel and I can't wait to read the rest of the Marked Men series because the gal can write a bad boy like none other. Book number 2 in this series is entitled Jet  and is already out on Kindle, but us Nook owners have to wait a little longer.
Total bummer.

This is the companion novel for Deeper We Fall
(which I love and did a review on earlier this year... definitely a must read).
While, I didn't like this book as much, I still enjoyed it. I adore Chelsea Cameron's writing and the connection between Katie and Stryker was really sweet. It's totally worth the read.

Holy moly! Remington Tate is a sexy, sexy beast!!
Just looking at the cover makes me feel all funny inside.
 *wipes drool*
Soooo anyways...
He is an underground fighter with a serious case of dark and mysterious and the chemistry between him and Brooke is freaking intense and STEAMY. It is absolutely your typical Contemporary Romance book and was a tad predictable at times, but I still really enjoyed it and am totally reading the rest of the books in the series.
Book 2 is supposed to be told from Remy's (girly sigh) POV, but not sure about book 3.

As I am sure you know, I am a HUGE Abbi Glines fangirl. I have loved every single one of her books and Twisted Perfection was no exception.
When I started the story I was a little shocked to find out how dirty Woods is
because he seemed a little stiff in Never and Forever Too Far
but boy, oh boy, did I like it! ;-)
I loved the connection between him and Della and am super excited that Glines is continuing their story in another installment. If you haven't read anything by Abbi Glines... get busy because the woman can write a Contemporary Romance like it is nobody's business.
Like seriously, all you Abbi Glines virigins out there...
Stop what you are doing,
download ALL of her books, grab a couple bottles of wine, and get to reading.
Warning: all of her male characters might cause the following reaction....
;-)

I am a huge fan of Jessica Sorensen and enjoyed the of The Secret of Ella and Micha, so I was super excited when this book came out. So excited that I literally read it in one day. Sorensen's writing makes it easy for you to get lost in the story and feel the emotions of her characters. Both the Secret and the Forever of Ella and Micha are really enjoyable reads, and while I am a bigger fan of Callie and Kayden's story, I love me some Ella and Micha as well.
